Powering Startups: Govt Unveils ₹2.3 Cr Scheme to Boost Rooftop Solar Innovation

In a big push towards clean energy, the Indian government has launched a ₹2.3 crore Startup Innovation Challenge to increase rooftop solar installations across the country. Announced by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE), this scheme invites startups to develop affordable, scalable, and innovative solutions that can drive faster adoption of solar power on rooftops.

The challenge aims to address key barriers in solar adoption — from high costs and technical complexity to lack of awareness. Startups offering tech-driven solutions, easy-to-install kits, financing tools, or community awareness models stand to gain not just funding, but also mentorship, pilot project opportunities, and potential integration with government initiatives like PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.

This initiative is a strong step toward India’s 2030 goal of 500 GW renewable capacity, empowering startups to play a vital role in shaping a cleaner, greener future.
